It’s always good to give something away. It not only makes you feel good but done properly it can be one of the most cost effective forms of marketing. If you are running your business on a limited marketing budget and need a lot of bang for a very small buck then you should be using online prize competitions in your marketing strategy.
Here is two case studies:
ozzbooks.com.au Australia’s most trusted online book stores is giving any person who joins their AGMates online community the chance to win their choice of books up to $50 in valued. It costs nothing to enter and the winner can choose from the 22,000 plus titles they have available online. enter here
Clovely Estate is giving away three bottles of their White Label wine. A bottle of Brut Reserve, a bottle of Verdelho and a bottle of Shiraz Merlot Cabernet. All you have to do to go into the draw is say if you have ever tried a Clovely Estate Wine. It is free to enter here.
How many thousands of dollars is this inexpensive promotion worth?
Ozzbooks and Clovely have invested an incredibly tiny $50 each on this campaign. Well its not really $50 as that retail not cost. Their $50 campaign runs for 30 days – so that is just $1.66 a day.
Say over that month that only 50 people actually engage and enter each draw. That is 50 potential new customers whose conscious they have managed to break through … which in todays world of information overload is an incredibly difficult thing for any business to do.
Fifty people who they have had the chance to expose their business and products to. Fifty new friends for less that $50.
The actual exposure is a lot more than 50 as there are 2,000 members of the community and thousands more who read and watch the community site each day.
Both businesses could multiply the results by sending an email with a link to each competition to their existing customers telling them about the chance to win. Most people love a free chance to win. To make it really attractive they should include both draws (books and wine) that way their customers will feel that they are sharing something (the free chance to win something of value).
Each businesses customers would feel good about receiving the email as the business is sharing something of value and not trying to sell them anything. Each business benefits from exposure to the other businesses customer base.
The whole exercise is an incredibly inexpensive win win marketing campaign. Each business wins and two lucky people win and everyone is happy.
Now you have a think about what other way you could reach so many people on such a deep level over the next 30 days for just $50.
My guess is you won’t be able to.
Now start thinking about what you’d have to giveaway that would create a competition frenzy.
