Since then this Stanthorpe B&B has won awards and received many accolades. It is famous for its hospitality, gardens and Remembrance Field of red Flanders poppies.

My book, Wildflowers, wilderness and wine is selling internationally in the travel genre.
It is the type of book that will make a great Christmas gift.

I wrote this book as a twelve month account of the Granite Belt seasons dominated by the spring Wildflowers including the Flanders poppies, the savage Wilderness of bushfires, droughts and floods, plus the great little stories that come from the Wineries.

All my life I have been a story teller and writing this book gave me an opportunity to share with others the tastes and aromas of food and wine, the life behind the scenes of guesthouses and restaurants catering to tourists and the local population, plus those wonderful young people the WWOOFers, Willing Workers on Organic Farms, who appear as new characters every month as my year passes.

No modern lifestyle book would be complete without local recipes so if you want to try my recipe for bread rolls or learn how to roast a goose, this is the book for you.

Olav Muurlink, the editor of the Southern Free Times wrote a review in which he stated Wildflowers, wilderness and wine was likely to have real local appeal as it covers everything from the drama of the fatal Glen Aplin bushfire to a no holds-barred insider’s look at what it’s like to have Don Burke from Burke’s Backyard in one’s own backyard.

He also said that Wildflowers, wilderness and wine is going to be a resource for historians to come, particularly for those who want to track a critical period of history when the Granite Belt switched from a place where Brisbane people came to shop for cheap fruit, to a tourist mecca.

Fay Helwig is a WWOOF host and for the past nine years has taken young International travelers as Willing Workers on Organic Farms who have assisted her in the garden.
