Question #1.
Rowell (QLD Wheat Grower) Asks

Does anybody know What percentage of Food that is consumed is imported to our country (Australia)? Does anybody know of who has done the research in this area?

I would assume the amount imported is growing year by year?

What level of residue testing goes into imported food?

These may be questions that have to be answered by someone who:
1. Specialises in disaggregation of the national accounts….the work of universities I imagine. I Hope someone had already done the work…

2. You would think the NFF would follow the consumption patterns of our community to see that our agricultural production was still competitive domestically. Perhaps one of the agricultural organizations…QFF?

They are real questions which go to the heart of agricultural and rural policy.

I’d appreciate it if someone could suggest where I might find this information.

Aren’t there any 2 year old Droughtmaster Bulls for sale in Southern and Central QLD?

There are 2 wanted ads on Agmates for people wanting to BUY Droughtmaster Bulls. One is looking for 1 and the other is looking for 6. The adds have been emailed to over 40 studs - result - 1 response.

Does anybody know a Droughtmaster Stud that has bulls for sale?

You may know someone.
There have been changes in Super whereby through self managed funds they can be used on your property etc
I am trying to expand and undertake improvements on my property but the banks are only allowing these provisions to the big end of town & keep telling me it isn’t available.
My accountant tells me it should be able to be used but no lending institution have developed a product.
Do you know anyone?

do you know anyone who could explain what ‘aflatoxins’ are and how they are introduced to feed stuffs? Have Just Seen this on a US Chat site and want to know anbody knows anything.

“I just called my feed store, and they confirmed that this was true, Purina has recalled many of their feeds due to the potential aflatoxins as a “precautionary measure”.”

Question 3:

Dear Steve,
Greetings! I was talking to a young person about the hot topic of “Prescribing” catchment areas. They said “What’s the problem? It’ not going effect you farmers. It hasn’t anywhere else in Australia. You won’t have to pay for your stock water. It will make it better for everyone….”

I was speechless. Have any farmers, apart from irrigators, been effected by this legislation? The erosion of property rights meant nothing to this person, and they thought that we dryland farmers were creating a stink about nothing in resisting Prescription. What are your thoughts?
