The recent emergence on the Eco-Terrorist group Earth Liberation Front (ELF) in Australia might seem comical, but it is no joke.
In 2001 before the September 11 attacks the FBI classified ELF as the main domestic terror threat in the US. John Cobb correctly called for the ELF to be declared a terrorist organization in Australia. Watch the video on the terrorist activities of the ELF in the USA.

The ELF are undoubtedly the most radical arm of the green movement and thinks that planet earth should be freed from our reign of terror, and perhaps emptied of humans altogether. Its actually an alarmingly common perception even amongst everyday people. Agmates member Cowpat said in a post just today:
“Until someone, anyone, recognizes that the human population is the biggest plague this world has ever known. And that we are breeding at an alarming rate. In 1950 we had some 2.5 billion. Now we have some 8 Billion. How soon do you think it will be before our planet can no longer support us? We’ve been aiming at cattle for their emissions, what about the emissions of close to eight Billion people, and rising.”
Its interesting how this opinion has quietly slipped into our conscious. From a terrific article in today’s Australian:
John Gray, one of Britain’s most respected intellectuals and until recently the professor of European thought at the London School of Economics, says humanity is a “plague on the planet”.
He echoes James Lovelock, the Gaia-inventing granddaddy of modern environmentalism, who thinks we have become a disease: “Humans on Earth behave in some ways like a pathogenic organism, or like the cells of a tumour or neoplasm. The human species is now so numerous as to constitute a serious planetary malady.”
Many now believe that natural disasters or the emergence of new diseases are attempts by Gaia to rid “herself” of the human virus.
The American novelist Kurt Vonnegut, hero to disaffected youth, said shortly before his death in 2007: “I think the Earth’s immune system is trying to get rid of us. And it’s high time it did.”
I personally have total faith that we humans are smart enough to develop new technologies as we have always done that will allow us to manage our resources and continue our domination of the planet earth and thrive as a species. After all it is our heritage and our god given right.
“IN earlier eras, from biblical times to the dawn of the Enlightenment, Earth was seen as the property of man, something we should conquer and tame and use to our advantage. Mankind should have “dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and every other living thing that moves on the Earth”, said God in the book of Genesis.
Even more forthrightly, a follower of the great scientific thinker Francis Bacon (1561-1626) said man should “put nature on the rack” and extract its secrets.”
