What the hell are we doing importing cat food from Canada. Last time I checked Canada has serious Mad Cow disease problem.
News just out today – Imported cat food from Canada is killing Australian Cats.
HUNTER is dead. Diesel and Colette are paralysed. Jasper’s hind legs still tremble, while Jax has made a full recovery.
The five previously healthy cats from across Sydney, who had nothing in common apart from their diets, have all been struck down by the same devastating illness – hind limb ataxia, which has left them incontinent and unable to move or feed themselves.
Their shocking conditions have been linked to a gourmet pet food, Orijen, which was withdrawn from Australian shelves by its Canadian manufacturer Champion Petfoods late last year.
What on earth is the Australian Government, AQIS and the DPI doing?
Firstly why are we importing cat food from anywhere?
Secondly why wasn’t the toxic cat food pick up by our quarantine inspection services?
Thirdly, What else are they missing?
How effective are our quarantine checks? – Not very if this is anything to go by.
Australian’s need some answers to these questions and we need them now.
(Thanks to Agmates member Paul for picking this one up).
