Todays National Weather: Weather Zone ; A trough over WA, SA and the NT is funneling hot air over the south and bringing showers and potentially severe storms that are tracking east. A high is bringing mostly clear skies to southeast.
• Fertiliser makers hit, as farmers wait | The Age: WESFARMERS and Incitec Pivot, Australia’s largest fertiliser maker, face falling sales and rising inventories as farmers delay purchases, expecting domestic prices will decline in line with a global slide…. Prices for diammonium phosphate, used on grain crops, fell to a 13-month low of $500 a tonne last week, down from a May record of $1225 a tonne.
•Favourite Australians | The Daily Telegraph: AUSTRALIA’S Prime Minister Kevin Rudd didn’t rate a mention, but his predecessor did.Despite former PM John Howard’s best efforts to make the ABC dislike him with his ongoing money squeeze on the public broadcaster during his decade-long run in office, an ABC TV poll has voted him in as the fifth most popular Australian.
•Anglers Fear Marine Greenies | The Daily Telegraph: PLANS to be announced today for the world’s first big city marine park – stretching from Newcastle through Sydney to Wollongong – have sparked fears hundreds of thousands of anglers will be locked out of their favourite fishing spots. The National Parks Association, a non-government conservation organisation, will also reveal its scheme for a network of “marine protection zones” running down the entire NSW coast.
•Rural Boards Merger Angers Action Group | ABC: An action group fighting against changes to rural lands protection boards says it will hold the New South Wales Government accountable if the merger costs farmers. The action group’s chairman, Hamish Holcombe, says the restructure has been approved with no indication of how the new boards will work.
