The Race That Stops a Nation – The Emerates Melbourne Cup

Only one sleep to go till the race that stops Australia. Like a lot of Australian’s it is the only race I have a bet (crazy because it’s the toughest race of the year to pick a winner).

My humble wager is going on No18 Profound Beauty to be ridden by Glen Boss.

Heres a clip of the 2007 Cup to put you in the mood or if your outside of Australia,so you can see what literally will at 2pm Eastern daylight Savings Time tomorrow, stop the whole nation of Australia.

Yes I found it very hard to get enthusiastic about it this year .
I think the Roma races this weekend would be a lot more fun !!

Steve, You have the name wrong,it’s should be called the World Cup, they’ve let every idiot and their dog run in the race now,OR more the appropriate name is the “Crooks and Robbers Cup”,You have to remember the only motovation the racing industry has is MONEY & GREED.A good example of this is the story of the greatest horse we have seen in Australia,Pharlap,he won races purely because of his big heart not because of the people associated with him.Then they had to take him accross the world and look where that got Pharlap,DEAD, ALL BECAUSE OF MONEY AND GREED. Those involved in the racing industry will do anything in the name of GREED to get the MONEY,THAT INCLUDES RUNNING THE RISK OF BRINGING EQUINE FLU AND POSSIBLY OTHER EXOTIC DESEASES IN TO THE COUNTRY.(which did happen as you know,and everyone but the racing industry were left holding the bunny)The racing industry should have been solely made foot the aproximately $10 million bill over the whole afair NOT the tax payer.A lot of people in the cattle industry were affected by the lockdown on the movement of horses but the authorities in their great wisdom could not see how it did affect us (that is only because the authorities are too dumb,blind and stupid to look outside the their own office window and see the real world)I no longer have any interest in the Melbourne Cup at all until the government take steps to rein in the racing industry and stop the abuse of our quantine process. It should be no different for a race horse to be bought into this country than for any other animal.Our quantine stations should be taken back off shore the way it used to be.
