Back on the 17th of October we warned the Agmates community that a rouge band of Irishmen were traveling the country selling dodgy power equipment from the back of rented vans.
It appears they have moved onto Country Victoria. Please send this alert onto any friends you may have in that state.
“More recently they targeted Gippsland and are now believed to be operating in the Dandenong area. Melanie, from Gippsland, told how an Irish charmer called Sheridan “with blue eyes and the gift of the gab” conned her out of $800.”
When we published the article Agmate’s community member Sandra Bishop Garglen Stud [pictured below] shared her families close call with the Irish conmen.
” Interested to read about your Irish Traders. About a month or so ago, 2 Irish men in a rented van stopped my 81 year old father in law and pressured him about buying a generator.
They even followed him home (about 20 klms) to pick up a cheque. Thank goodness Simone was here and refused to give them a cheque without Shane or I here to OK it.
They battled with her for a while, but must have realised they were not going to win. Simone asked for a business card, but none was forthcoming.
These people pick their targets.
Unfortunately Percy’s generation are still very trusting, and sometimes have trouble comprehending that people like this are about.
We have already had some unfortunate incidents over the phone which make us increasingly suspicious.”
Thanks Sandra. Be a good citizen and pass this alert onto anyone you know in the south.

Update: 3.30pm Monday 3rd November
The Courier Mail reported today that the Irish Traders are active in North QLD, targeting Cairns, Ingham & Emerald and Yeppoon. (article not available online)
It is reported that the traders had just bought in a shipping container of stock at Mackay. In QLD if you are suspicious of a door-to-door trader, take down as many details as you can and call the office of Fair Trading on 13 13 04. The report says.
Have Your say!
