Scientific research has shown that China is growing ever Greener as global CO2 concentrations grow ever higher.

Interesting!
I take it with a grain of salt of course, but my dad’s been saying for years now that he thinks local trees have increased growth rates too… but he’s just a timbercutter, not an eminent climate scientist!

this topic is not new for ‘long term’ science e.g. palaeogeology – i mean, how did the carboniferous period (that gave us our coal reserves today) eventuate unless there was lots of warm wet weather and lots of CO2 for plants to fix? yep, things cycle. but it could well be that we’re contributing to a faster-than-usual change in cycles, hence people claiming sea temp changes and dissolved CO2 (changes sea pH balances) will destroy coral reefs faster than they can adapt or ‘migrate’ up/down coasts.
and sure, greenland may have once been ice-free, but the idea that losing its icecap now might interrupt the gulf stream and ‘move’ the ice-cap from greenland to central europe, no doubt would alarm a lot of european residents!

we can chop and change numbers to make all sorts of colourful graphs… and we can label our detractors as ‘alarmists’ or ‘extremists’ but my gut instinct is that we should err on the side of caution, and go with the simple idea that there’s never been this many humans around before, so the better we mitigate our effects on our environment, the more time we have to realise if we’re making terrible mistakes! Others though, might see this situation as a time to make something out of people’s confusion!
