Our globe trotting Prime Minister is winging his way to New York to spend the whole of next week helping the UN set its goals.
The PM has caught the ‘travel bug’ with this tax payer funded trip being Kevin Rudd’s second visit to the USA since taking office 10 months ago and the 16th country visited in that time.
The Federal Parliament is siting next week and the trip will mean that Kevin Rudd will miss the entire parliamentry week.
.
“Mr Rudd had more official engagements overseas in June, July and August than he did in Sydney, where he stays at Kirribilli House.
There were nine prime ministerial engagements in Sydney in those three months – two related to World Youth Day, four speeches, one book launch and two press conferences. But in the same period Mr Rudd had several engagements in Japan, Indonesia, Japan again, Malaysia, Beijing, South Korea, Singapore, Niue and New Zealand.”
.
New Liberal Leader Malcolm Turnbull, has wasted no time in calling the ‘wonder lust’ Prime Minister to order.
.
“MALCOLM Turnbull last night demanded that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd fix the “financial ruin” of NSW rather than fly to New York next week.
Instead of going on yet another taxpayer-funded overseas trip next week, he should be spending a week in Sydney seeing what his political backers in Macquarie Street have done to the state. He should ride the trains that don’t run on time, and see the queues in public hospital casualty wards.
Instead of swanning around at the United Nations, Mr Rudd should be getting stuck into his NSW Labor mates and holding them to account.”
.
I’m certain that struggling Australian Pensioners would agree whole heartedly with Turnbull. Whilst Kevin Rudd freely admits that he could not live on a single pension, staying in Australia and doing anything to help our struggling seniors is not an option.
Spending a week in the Big Apple and addressing the UN is of a far higher priority to our globe trotting Prime Minister than the suffering of our senior citizens.
.
Have your say!
Do you think a week in Parliament finding a solution to the challenges Australians currently face is more important than spending a week in New York addressing the UN?
