Capital Punishment for our School Kids? – Video of the day.

On Channel Nines Today show this week Australia’s sole surviving One Nation State MP Rosa Lee Long is calling for Corporal punishment to be reintroduced to QLD schools.

Channel Nine wants capital Punishment for unruly school students.

Wikipedia definition of Corporal Punishment: “is the deliberate infliction of pain intended to punish a person or change his/her behavior.”

Wikipedia definition of Capital Punishment: “also known as the death penalty, is the execution of a person by the state as punishment for a crime.”

If channel nine has its way you may want to get your children out of State run schools. Hehe.

Should we bring back the cane / strap / black board duster or any blunt instrument capable of being wielded or thrown by a teacher as they were in my school days to keep us in line.

Time for boundaries to be set for children….NOW.

Yes that is what has been missing for a long time.
The ruthless media has affected our chidren very badly. Our society in many ways has not valued children – too many people have loved money and things more than children – we have been a shallow society.

As a Mum of 6, with 4 at school, and with all the hassles of bullies who get put into a “cooling down” room to play games when they hurt one of my children, I would love to see something a bit more constructive……..perhaps if the parent can choose the form of their child’s disciplines method and for it to be issued only by the principle????

Let’s face it there are quite a few parents who don’t care what their children do and these are the children that run amok and have no respect for authority and the poor teachers have their hands tied.

Children need boundaries…my children prove it, while they are not beaten there are other forms of discipline that I use, such as time out and taking special toys away, so they understand that there are consequence that are not nice for actions that are not nice.

Keep going the way we are going now…we are going to end up like U.S.A, scanning for weapons when they walk in the front door of school…..gangs killing police, etc….*shudder*

Also it’s time we showed some respect for teachers, I have seen and heard what they go through with children in schools, nobody should have to work in those conditions….especially the people who spend 6 hours a day with our children, they, along with the parent, also play a big part on our child’s upbringing.

Time for boundaries to be set for children….NOW.

Matt – Don’t be so hard on yourself. You must have SOME redeeming features we can campaign on.

Gotta say if we have to have Greenies in Parliament it would be a big a giant step forward if they had your sense of humour. Ahhh thats it our campaign slogan.

While being a Pom I’m from Liverpool which is not exactly all jolly hockey sticks and cucumber sandwiches
Plus I’ve been here for more than half my life… in fact all of my adult life… I consider myself pretty Aussie but the accent still has people ask if I’m enjoying the holiday

At my school in the UK we had “The Strap”. Don’t think it really did any harm, but to be honest it was only used by asshole teachers. And I don’t think it actually improved behaviour in their classes, in fact there was probably a general feeling that there was much less respect for teachers who used the strap.

i.e. those who didn’t use the strap probably had fewer occasions where using the strap could have been justified.

So I vote no for corporal punishment… but maybe capital punishment has merit

I don’t believe it. Your a Pom. Your ‘take the piss’ sense of humour is so Australian.

I agree with you. The cane is all fine in theory, but it’s the % of teachers with short fuses who were bullying brutes who in my time metered out corporal punishment with sheer pleasure, that convinces me that we are better off without it.

Besides as time goes we are supposed to be evolving into a more civilized society. It used to be the accepted a few decades ago years ago that as an employer or a boss you could give an employ a ‘clip under the ear’ for doing the wrong thing.

They call that work place bullying now days. Perhaps Rosa Lee might advocate we bring back the right to give an apprentice a ‘clip under the ear’ or a ‘toe up the back side’ if he / she does the wrong thing. That by definition is also Corporal punishment.
