UN IPCC Urges World to Eat Less Meat to Combat Global Warming

.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd tells us that based on the science coming out of the UN’s IPCC Australia must implement a Carbon Emissions reduction scheme.

.

Kevin Rudd [ pictured at the UN]

“Well, I just look at what the scientists say. There’s a group of scientists called the International Panel on Climate Change - 4000 [2,500 actually] of them. Guys in white coats who run around and don’t have a sense of humour.

They just measure things. And what they say to us is it’s happening and it’s caused by human activity.

I am not, myself, a qualified scientist. I’m elected as Prime Minister of Australia to act on the basis of the considered scientific advice.”

.

But look what else the Chairman of the IPCC Dr Rajendra Pachauri [pictured at the top] is urging the world to do to combat global warming:

.

People should have one meat-free day a week if they want to make a personal and effective sacrifice that would help tackle climate change, the world’s leading authority on global warming has told The Observer

Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which last year earned a joint share of the Nobel Peace Prize, said that people should then go on to reduce their meat consumption even further.

Pachauri, who was re-elected the panel’s chairman for a second six-year term last week, said diet change was important because of the huge greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental problems - including habitat destruction - associated with rearing cattle and other animals.

Give up meat for one day [a week] initially, and decrease it from there,’ said the Indian economist, who is a vegetarian.

.

Kevin Rudd has already singled his intention to blindly follow Pachauri and his humorless men in white coats considered scientific advise.

It needs to be asked, if Rudd subscribes to the IPCC ideology, what then are his plans for the Australian Meat industry? Does he endorse Dr Pachauri’s recommendations in regard to eating less meat?

A few weeks ago I saw the head of The Australian Conservation Foundation say on ABC TV that we have to reduce the number of cattle in Australia to help global warming and reduce the carbon footprint -

To think I used to give money to that crowd - now they are trying to do us in.

To this comment by Von Curtiss I must say I am dismayed as anyone can be deceived by the garbage that Von commented on.

He has every right to be disgusted at the matured Bovine excrement that is being spouted around the world ,and by people who must have more good judgment and common sense morals than they are trying to spew over us.

These people ,including Prime Minister Kevin/Dudd must have a hidden agenda to be coerced into putting both feet into the propaganda bucket like they have done.

I must ask is it the fact that they are promoters of the much planned New World Order where one group of people have the wish to be rulers of the World? Any dumb fool can see that if this happens it can only be by a monstrous and cruel dictatorship. Or are these people so lacking in spirit and faith that they have no moral code to follow and can only see that their unlimited power is the only way the world should be run.

For me I’ll stick with my belief in the ultimate power of god and let him decide whether there is Global Warming / Or Climate Change /or Ozone hole /or bird flu or whatever other nonsense that the One Worlders try to drag over our eyes

One question to these “experts “ who spout this stuff. Are they prepared to give up their eating and flatulence habits and show the rest of us how it is done? Or is this just a little more ‘panic please propaganda?

What is the controversy here?

I try to eat less meat than I otherwise might - there are pretty clear cut environmental benefits.

But with the increasing global population, and increasing wealth in poorer countries, I don’t think Aussie farmers have to worry much as there will be plenty of demand for meat in the future.

Reality is that as a general rule we are living in a time where this a lot more meat per capita to go around than there will be in the future.

Even if there is less demand for meat, there will only be increased demand for agricultural products so farmers will still be alright.

Hi Matt

Yes there may be a higher demand for other ag products BUT the people who produce beef exclusively are put in a very bad position.

Who does this? you ask..well the cattlemen of the Barkly Tableland, the Vic River and Sturt Plateau districts. People like my family and my friends and industry contacts from the Kimberly to Alice to Arnhem to SW QLD.

We cant grow wide scale crops because it is environmentally unsustainable. We graze cattle with minimum impact on the land we have. We DON’T want to become soy farmers or tomato growers. We have a lifestyle, a livelihood and we don’t want to leave.

If we can’t have our life what do we have?

If we are made obsolete on the land do we move to the city? and like displaced farmers in other areas of the world, do we exist in slums and on the outskirts of the city?

Will the public service create jobs that maximise the skills we have? Will our way of life be preserved? respected? I don’t think so and thats why we fight these comments!

People make statements that we shouldn’t eat meat and another wedge of the “voting public” believe it and our life becomes endangered!

I agree that people will still want meat but don’t think people on the land are JUST farmers and we can just grow anything any where.

We are diverse and this is so that we can grow a product at maximum capacity, and adapt to the environment that we live in. We love what we do and if a town dweller can have the life they want, why cant country folk have the same?

The change in seasons, the storms and sunsets are my art gallery, my stock horses and cattle provide my sport, The rural community are a massive family, I have the food I want, I have a roof over my head and I have a job and environment that I love.

The point is that eating less meat will not really do a damn thing for the PHYSICAL environment but it will cause great damage to the SOCIAL environment. Thats why people in the country get up and fight!

Yes by getting rid of we family farmers the Australian corporate/government and the corporate opposition would love to push us off the land and into the city then corporate agri- business and iron ore/uranium/coal/gas corporations can own rural Australia - A CHARMING FUTURE FOR OUR CHILDREN !!!

We don’t actually have a democracy we have a corptocracy - both sides of government are driven by corporations.

Hi Rashida,

I’m not saying ban beef farming… I’m just saying that eating a bit less meat is not only good for a lot of things (including personal health), but it is also pretty much a reality of the future of the planet with a growing population and increasing wealth.

Those areas of which you speak, true cattle country, will undoubtedly continue to support cattle - whereas areas that are a bit more flexible may well change depending on the economic climate.

As for not wanting to leave? and Town dwellers having the life they want? Hmm last time I checked I was not a multi-millionairre TV star or sportsman so heck if I have to compromise so might you ;)

Matt

p.s. if life is so beautiful out there on your land, how come is it farmers are always bleating for handouts to sustain their lifestyles?

;) (that was a joke - honest).

I didn’t ever think you meant ban beef “farming”.

All I’m saying is that the town voter, the government and the green machine are making it that people on the land have a hell of a job staying there and a few ill chosen words that limit our market could spell the end for a lot of people.

Matt you may dream of being a sports-star or millionaire and be compromising but I have what I want and I’m not real impressed with the idea of people working towards taking that away. :)

With the sh*t the government and the greenies throw at us, ask yourself why do we stay????

It has to be the love of the land and the life doesn’t it
:)
(sadly thats the truth- honest) ;)

Every time I get stuck in the traffic jams in Brisbane I am thrilled to bits when I get back out in the wide open areas of the bush especially now that it is raining more often.

I won’t ever be leaving for good until I’m a very old lady.
