Hello Agmates,
Townsville has been chosen as the first regional centre to host the third annual conference in recognition of the north’s vital role in the economic and environmental health of Queensland.
Highly topical issues surrounding the sustainable management of North Queensland’s natural resources will be the focus of the conference.
Topics that will be addressed include best practices in farming, environmentally sustainable tourism, water recycling, indigenous land tenure and the Australian emissions trading scheme.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Perish or prosper: balanced management of North Queensland’s natural resources’.
You will hear some of the latest scientific research in natural resource management, as well as listen to experts engage in spirited panel discussion about how to tackle the challenges of sustainable planning in the future.
.
Of particular interest to Agmates will be Scott Singleton (pictured).
Scott is a senior associate from Minter Ellison Lawyers.
His topic is titled:
.
‘Money does grow on trees-carbon offset trading’.
Scott is well qualified to conduct this session as his major practice areas include climate change projects and compliance, native title future acts and indigenous cultural heritage compliance, public law and government law.
Prior to joining Minter Ellison, Scott worked as chief of staff to two Queensland Government ministers. He has extensive experience in policy development and legislative processes.
Scott has been involved in advising a number of his clients on carbon offset projects, including:
.
* Rio Tinto Aluminium and its Carbon Pool arrangements in avoided deforestation.
* CO2CRC Pilot Project and its pilot carbon dioxide geosequestration project in the Otway Basin.
* Stanwell Corporation and its ZeroGen carbon capture and storage project.
* Ergon Energy in relation to its sustainable electricity poles project

Cost is $165 per person. This is good value compared to booking an appointment to see a professional like Scott. I think they charge that for about a 30 minute consultation. I’m actually have no idea if thats the amount but we all know how major law firms charge.

More information is available at the NRW web site.
