Fart Tax “on the nose” for Australian Beef Export

The Australian Governments proposed Emissions Trading Scheme is the greatest threat to viability of farming since we removed all trade protection from our Agricultural exports.

South Australian farmer John Michelmore writes:

.

Photo John Michelmore” I just calculated the typical carbon tax on a cow per annum. If this goes ahead and farmers can’t off-set their land use changes it could be the end of the beef industry in Australia.

We won’t be able to compete with any overseas country that doesn’t have a carbon control program.

Methane production per cow per day is 350 grams. Say methane is 20 times worse than carbon dioxide. That makes an equivalent carbon dioxide emission of 7kg per day.

At $40 per tonne CO2 carbon levy that’s $102 per cow per year. Even at $15 per tonne that’s $38 per year.

If a cow lives for say 10 years that’s somewhere between $380 and $1020 per head. If you sell your steers at 9 months thats up to $76.50 each. You can see why agriculture has been left out at this stage.

Have your Say! What madness is at work when governments are trying to develop the technology to tax farmers on their animals flatulence?

I simply can’t believe how we vote for these clowns here.

I am convinced it is due to the dumbing of our children through the education system because any normal person with basic maths skills can see the entire global warming scare is absolute c**p.

However, the opposition are also floundering in the same mess because they will not look at issues with common sense either. I pray the ignorance of the masses will end sooner than later.

The rise and fall of civilisations has occurred right through history, and generally the masses just did as they were told, right to the end.

Dissenters were hanged/burnt or stoned so as not to influence others.

Are we any different?

G’day Grant,

You have made a good point. I published what I considered to be a brilliant video -

“Why Democracy is better”.

Most readers did not like it at all. But I think you like me will enjoy the satire. But then again maybe I have a warped sense of humour.

Please let me know what you think after you watch it.

I wonder if John Michelmore could tell if human fart will be taxed as well?

(Why only the cows? There must be at least as much methane in human flatus than in cow flatus)

May be it’s time to invest in an anti fart drug - medicine that will save you tax!

If it stops farting I just hope it doesn’t stop everything else as well…

You’ll have a lot of pregnant looking cows (and people) if it goes wrong…

There will have to be a warning on the package insert of the drug:
WARNING: SAVING TAX CAN CAUSE CONSTIPATION

Funny how I always thought PAYING tax causes constipation

Sorry Gawie,

No tax on human flatus, depends on what we eat to some extent, and the amount of methane is nothing like a cow produces.

You do have a point though, because a huge amount of methane is also produced by white ants. I’ve seen government bureaucrats out in the paddock recently trying to count them so the farmers can be taxed on these as well. The problem is they ran out of fingers and toes!!

Unfortunately if northern cattle producers move out of cattle something has to consume the grass.

What if its white ants; another problem created I would say.
