Transport Industry Shutdown Update #8 Pattel Group Pulls Out

One of the two major groups coordinating the Truckies Strike has pulled out of the shutdown.

Mick Pattel - National Road Transport Forum writes:

Photo of Mick PattelAfter a crisis meeting today with Queensland Shadow Transport Minister, Mr Tim Nicholls, we are urging all supporters of the shutdown to begin work immediately.

Round one is over and the arrogant Queensland Bligh government has sent their transport minister on holidays, making it impossible for our issues to be heard.

We have to call it off because the appropriate Ministers in Qld and NSW have gone into hiding and quite frankly, we find that ridiculously rude.

The frustrations for the transport industry are far from resolved and the industry will now regroup in a formal entity and make clear plans for this next attempt to highlight their concerns to the public and government.

We have learnt so much from this exercise and this is only the start.
Tim Nicholls has given us an undertaking that he will be taking on the issues and taking up the fight to the Labor government. He is supportive of the nonsense about demerit points on log-books and has made a commitment to take the fight up to labor on the industries behalf.

We will be working to form a new organisation in the coming weeks. Legally, we now have to look at different entities from which to operate.

We will also be making sure that log book breaches receive the attention that they deserve. Tim Nicholls and Ian Rickuss have assured us that they will help truckies that have unfair charges on log-books if they are not fatigued related . I encourage all truckies to take their breaches to their local member if they feel they don’t deserve it.

We are advising our member Truckies across the country to go back to work immediately.

ALDODA LogoBunny Brown - Australian Long Distance Owners & Drivers Association ALDODA

I have just spoken to Bunney by phone. He said:

Our delegates and members are meeting in Melbourne, Brisbane and Townsville tomorrow morning. The members will decide at those meeting what our next action will be.

It is up to our members if we continue with the shutdown or go back to work. There has been tremendous support for the shutdown from the members and it is really up to them where we go from here.

Peter Schuback - Mineral & Mine Movers Transport

I spoke to Peter By Phone. He said:

Photo of peter SchubackI am extremely disappointed to hear the Pattel group has gone back to work. I guess that means it’s over and it appears that what we have been protesting against is here to stay.

I will have to talk to our supporters and see what they want to do, but I’d guess that they will go back to work.

I wish to say a big thank you to Mick Pattel for putting himself out on a limb for our transport industry, sometimes it can be a very thankless task.

Mick has pulled us together for this shutdown in just on 3 months, something that others have been trying to do for years and haven’t succeeded.

On Monday it was very evident that the stoppage was huge. The Hume Hwy was dead heading into Sydney, Townsville was dead, very strange feeling with no trucks working.

To those association and unions reps that say the percentage was 7% - 10% you are wrong, it was easy 60% to 70% on Monday its a shame they all couldn’t stay out a bit longer!!

To those who did commit to stay out for Mick’s fight,THANK YOU, It shocked a lot of people even though they won’t admit it. If anyone can help Mick with expenses and are able to donate, his contact details are on http://www.forums.altnews.com.au

Thanks again Mick

Yes I would also like to thank Mick and his team for their effort and to all those who did stop good luck.

I know what it has cost me to stop and sure there are other struggling owner drivers like myself in the same boat.

But I can walk down the street now with my head held high because I made a stand for what is wrong and I hope the politicians get off their arses and listen up now.

Hope to hear some news soon on a new attack ,we musn’t let the support die off in the next few weeks. I say on ward and upward lets shake these politicians out of their hiding holes again.

Its a travesty that Fear now controls all our lives. Fear of our own people , fear of our purported governments, fear of truth and justice.

Notice that Media Blackout regarding the past few days.? See how easy it is to control the public.

I did my bit and was well prepared for the battle. stocked up and ready.

What has happened to our Will to defend what we know is right?

Those of you who bit the bullet and took a stand are commended for their actions. Don’t you think you have just as much right to challenge those who implement the rules personally for their actions when it/ they affect you personally.?

Is it now evident they certainly don’t give a s**t about you or your families basic human rights or livelihood.?

Is our destiny to be a nation of drones, perhaps, slaves{ a person under the domination of another} may be a more apt definition.? Time will tell.

Are law makers not totally out of touch with reality , or are they deliberately implementing an agenda that is UN Australian as the rest of us would perceive Un Australian to be. Its an awakening that needs to be kindled, I hope fellow Australians have the fortitude to see it for what is happening before their eyes.

Good Luck to you all, we certainly need it and may the Truth set us free..

I would like to thank Mick Pattel for his commitment to the trucking industry.

I have sons and a son in law involved in the industry. I also was involved for about 28 years before getting married, so I am so glad that Mick has stood tall and is doing all he can for the industry.

I really think the transport minister and the premier should link up with Mick and do a week in the cabin of a truck and see how long they last. Maybe then they could see just how ridiculous their laws governing the transport really are.

Keep up the good work all truckies. My husband has also been stood down for the week as he works at the local meat works and could not get cattle, but we will survive.

Thank you once again we are behind you on this one.

I would also like to thank Mick and commend all those people that chose to stand up for our rights and were parked up Monday like us.

The union percentage est. was way out, but what would they know sitting in their office counting members money. If Hughie was game to show his face and get out on the road he would have seen what the rest of us did.

I drove my car from Bris-Syd Sunday night Monday morning and there was hardly a truck to be seen, ask any of the roadhouses’ the couple I stopped at had never seen it that quiet ever.

When in Sydney all I spotted were rigids and very few others running around, except for Tolls which the TWU believe is the only transport company in Australia, maybe thats where Hughie got his figures.

Even loading my trucks today we were still being affected with out of stocks and waiting on southern trucks to arrive. Keep up the good work and imagine what being parked for a whole week would do.

The media blackout was as Un Australian as I have ever seen. When the government or big business controls our media, democracy is finished we may as well be living in China.

Keep us updated Mick.

They maybe able to control our media but it will take more than that to take away our freedoms and basic rights.

Am willing to fight for as long as it takes and believe when the rest of the country fully understands how this was controlled and we were treated I am sure it will become more widespread than our Industry.

What a pity. So much might have been achieved.

Surely they would not have run had they not been thoroughly rattled.

Perhaps only give them two days warning and tell them you will stay out until they come home if they try to run out again.

Keep smiling. Keep trying and good luck.
Andrew Taylor.

We will fight back and we will win .

We will now expose all of the major companies and the way they treat subies. We will also look at any other action that can be taken . The fight is not over and many drivers are still refusing to go back to work and I support them .

Why Mick called it off when we were winning has got me beat . The meat works were out of Cattle , No cattle in the sales yards and shops were starting to run out of food . Only Mick can answer why he buckled and let them win for the time being.

Thank you to all of the people that supported Mick and My groups. We had a major problem with not having any money to be able to advertise to the public what it was all about and the main stream media cut us lose and said very little.

But have no fear we are still here and will keep fighting. If you get booked for any traffic offense use the Request for a review forms to contest the fines . It costs nothing to request a review and it costs them around $650.00 in lost revenue and they can not take your money or points whilst it is under review .

If you want one let me know and I will email them to you . My Email is : jamfig@austarnet.com.au
