Transport Industry Shutdown Update #2 - Mick Pattel

The Australian Transport Industry Shutdown Convener Mick Pattel (pictured) writes:

The National Road Transport Shutdown is only a short time away and still no-one in Government is taking it seriously.

All attempts to contact Transport Ministers have proven fruitless, it’s almost as if they hope it will go away. That will be a bad mistake, the transport industry has never been more committed to this demonstration of unity than at any other time in the past.

I believe the Prime Minister and State Premiers should be taking control of this matter before it is too late.

When the shutdown happens on the 28th of July there will be about two working days before the Government will react then a further two days to resolve the industries concerns.

By that time the Public, Retailers, Mines, Regional Centres, and Exporters both from Manufacturing and Primary Producers will be in uproar.

No Government can ignore the damage this Transport shutdown will do to the economy of the country, because the industry has voluntarily withdrawn it services in protest there will be nothing the government can do but capitulate.

The list of demands continues to grow as time goes on and it would not surprise me if other industries that are in trouble as a result of poor Government performance will join the protest and add their demands to the list. I believe the door is open for this to happen after the shutdown starts.

The ideal conclusion would be for Governments to head this off before the entire country becomes involved and the fallout could bring about the demise of the Labor Government.

I also believe that they are not going to let a badly formulated piece of Transport Reforms harm their chance of re-election, but then again when did Governments ever listen to the people.

Hey Mick you see if we work together we can get it out their . Not like your attempts to block people from your meetings . That didn’t work . All you did was make your self look silly . Maybe you will wake up and work along side the other people that are all aiming in the same direction as you are trying to help to protect the farming , Fishing and transport industry . Lots of luck with your political party .

Mick is not and will never be associated with you or ALDODA - you know and we know it.

What does political preference have to do with this? You and yours are rednecks and a disgrace to the industry

Mick, Go for it buddy,

I reckon half the nation is quietly behind you and the other half will never ever understand what its all about. The trouble with common sense is that its not very common!

Unfortunately the country is run by people who will never have a clue what this is all about. I hope you guys can hang out until you get a worthwhile result. We’ve got enough tucker salted away to go as long as it takes.

If nothing comes of it I’ve got a couple of good horses you can have if you have to go back to doing what grandad used to do!! Be Tough.

Go for it truckies.

The new trucking laws are ridiculous and will bring the trucking industry and the livestock industry to its knees.

A lot of rural producers have wanted to do this (withold food from the markets for a couple of weeks) for a long time, but in their usual style producers wont stick together.

Hopefully it will have massive results for all of us and rural people will start to make a profit so they can stay in the industry.

ROFL at jamfig email address…….. sounds about appropriate for you Peter! back the front FIGJAM.

Here’s a link to the list of demands: Click Here

We’re parking up in support. Finally a representative with commonsense and respect to represent this industry, WAY TO GO MICK!!

I’ve run 2 Polls about the Truck Park Up on other forums and was pleasantly surprised at the results.

The question: “Do you support the national transport industry shutdown to force the present Government to negotiate the new laws being implemented in September?”

I wait patiently to see the results.

I was born into a transport family, my mum and dad drove, 3 brothers, my husband and myself all drive, so I know pretty well what is happening out there and the public needs to be aware of the targets the truckies have become.

GO FOR IT. We will be parking up.

THE TWU IS HEDGEING ITS BETS .

Wont now come out in support of the transport workers and wont condemn their action .

A bit short on two vital appendages I think.

I am supporting the shutdown but I also support the ALDODA trying to get things done especially for the owner driver.

We are only going to get one go at this & it needs to be done properly (which it seems to be).

The last thing we need is two different organisations trying to achieve the same things working against each other.

There is no infighting .

You have three groups of people representing the transport industry . One group is only going after issues that effect them and a select section of the transport industry .

The other two groups are trying to get many issues addresses and if you would like a copy of the issues please phone me or email me and I will send them to you . jamfig@austarnet.com.au . Ph 07 41 24 88 99 .

We have told the police that their will be no blockage of roads and we have asked all drivers to just go home and take a holiday . Spend some time with their wives and kids .

We have also asked that they help people like meals on wheels and Lions to make sure that none of our elderly people are affected by the action being taken by transport operators.

Many thanks

Peter Schuback

WELL DONE, GO FOR IT

We are just a one truck company and like all others are sick of how the gov’t & big company’s treat the truckies.

Our driver (son in-law) reports that a large amount of drivers he has spoken to are about to resign from the union because they have had enough of Hughie Willams.

The comment made by the Canberra bureaucrat shows exactly how he considers that truckies are nothing but dirt to be trodden on and its Ok to rip them off.

WE MIGHT BE SMALL, BUT WE’LL BE PARKING UP
AUSTRALIA NEEDS THE TRUCKIES.

Alright I am at home now a single truck operator willing to support the shutdown as long as no blockades are involved.

I supported the aldoda yesterday but after receiving a copy of there “rumor has it” paper it only made me angry & wanting to go to work.

I am still going to stay at home for 2 weeks because I have been whinging about fuel prices & log book fines NOT because some mob who I don’t know THREATENS people who do not go along with there chain of thinking. This is not the way to get people onboard.

Mick Pattel & co let me now what the next step is after 28/08 where are youse going and what are yous doing if you want me to stay at home for two weeks which I am willing to do let me know whats happening.
