SOME of 2008’s best rain is likely to fall on many parts of Australia next week, a meteorologist says.
Weather Channel senior meteorologist Dick Whitaker said a major rainfall event appeared to be developing.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects a significant weather event, with the biggest falls around Tuesday.

“We’ve been watching several computer simulations for the past few days and they are indicating that some of the best rain for 2008 is likely next week, and this is forecast to fall over some of our worst drought affected areas,” Mr Whitaker said in a statement.
“Widespread rainfall totals of 25 to 50mm are likely over large areas of western Queensland, western NSW, northern Victoria and South Australia from Monday to Friday.
In South Australia between 20mm and 40mm is predicted in the the Mid North, eastern Eyre peninsula and the Central districts. This will come as great news for croppers in those districts. Pastoralists in the Flinders Ranges district can also expect 20 to 40mm according to the forecast.
Up to 20mm is expected elsewhere.

I’ll believe it when it happens!!!
Out of the last drizzle event Bungowannah Park got 7 ml; 20k away 2 of my neighbours at Sandy Ck recorded 24 ml and they are 500 metres away from my guage and I tipped out 16 ml. I obviously haven’t been on my bended knee and for sure Bill hasn’t!
Japanese forecasters said we were supposed to get good rain in June!!!! and then nothing till October!!!…then summer rains…that bring up the weeds. How do they manage to get such different predictions? No… don’t answer that…I can never get my head round oscilations and weather jargon….I’m happy to live on hope! Jen
Jenny,
Guess what?
Yes, it is!!!
Most of the farms around here rely on dams for stock water, and most of them are almost dry. We’ve had about 6″ this year, and the feed has almost stopped growing due to dryness. People have been losing sheep, and paddocks are patchy with the poorest germination that some remember.
I thank God for every drop he’s sending.
If we get some run off it will be such a tremendous relief.

YES IT IS ROSALIE!!!!
Woke earlier to a shower and now it has started again!!!
Our Albury area is in much the same state with bores running dry and sufface water catchment dams dry too. Around the hills creeks that normally run all year round have gone under ground. We need feet to alter conditions round here and for the irrigators down river.
The forecaste prediction for continuing extreme weather patterns has to be heeded though.
Let’s hope we all get what we need out of this event at least. Jen
