Barnaby Joyce should Lead The National Party

Agmates editor Steve Truman writes:

How out of touch with reality is the National Party? It would appear that next Monday the party will elect Warren Truss unopposed as it’s new leader. Peter McGuaran, Barnaby Joyce and Luke Hartsuyker have all ruled themselves out of the running whilst Hartsuyker will run for deputy.

Warren TrussWarren Truss will be 60 next year and has held his seat of Wide Bay for almost 2 decades. Under the Howard Government he was the Minister for Ag from 1999 until 2006 and then the minister for Trade until last Saturday and is current deputy of the Party. Truss is quoted in the Gympie Times today as saying - “…he was determined to lead the Nationals, who have only 10 members in the new parliament, back to previous strenghts.Â

“I am determined to drive the party forward and to stand up for the critical interests of the millions of Australians who the National represent.”

As stated in my article - “National Party - Must Have new Leadership or it will fade into Obscurity”  the Nationals not only lost 2 Heartland seats (Dawson QLD & Page NSW), didn’t win the newly created seat of Flynn in its heartland of Central QLD it suffered swings to Labor in every single one of the 10 seats it held.

Mark Vaile & Warren Truss have been on the inner scantium of the Coalition government for the last 11 years as either Ag or Trade ministers.

They both have to take responsibility for the policies of the Nationals that have turned rural and regional voters away from the party in droves. Mark Vaile has done the honourable thing and fallen on his own sword, and Warren Truss ends up the new leader, how does that work?

So to rejuvenate the party they are going to make the same old tied party hack who during the 2 decades of being in the party has seen MP numbers go from 22 down to 10 on his watch. You have got to be kidding me.

Barnaby JoyceThe only chance of rekindling their waning fortunes to to elect Senator Barnaby Joyce as the Nationals Leader. Joyce is the only National who can look rural and regional people in the eye and say I’m here to look after your best interests and stuff anybody else. He’s proved it time without number.

John Michelmore a farmer from South Australia sums it up best in a comment he left on the National Parties performance, over to you John…….Â

John Michelmore Says:
Unless I’ve been living in a vacuum I haven’t heard why the Nationals think they did so miserably in the election. They can hardly say that “work choices” was the reason as this resposibilty rests clearly on John Howard’s shoulders.

When the Nationals openely accept that their poor performance in relation to the following rural issues, played a role in their demise at the polling booths, maybe they have some hope of regaining their position as representing rural Australia.

The major issues as I see them are as follows:-

  1. They believe that the lobby groups like NFF , the government organisations like Meat and Livestock Australia represent farmers interests.
  2. They believe that a level playing field is the best economic option for manufacturing industries and primary production Australia.
  3. They believe in freetrade, irrespective of the fact that none of our customers and competitors really embrace free trade as they do.
  4. They believe in regulation and legislation to remove property rights.
  5. They believe in regualtion to give our customers overseas, the mistaken perception that we can trace meat from paddock to plate.

Only when they wake up, lose their arrogance and start representing Australians for Australia will they possibly regain what they have lost. Or maybe its already too late for this!!

John Michelmore

John, if the Nationals elect Warren Truss as leader next Monday all you can expect is more of the same, it’s a joke and an insult to the Rural and Regional people of Australia that they pretend to represent.

I urgue readers, if you are a National Party member or supporter and care about the future of the National Party - contact your Local Federal National party MP, Senator and urge them to throw their support behind Barnaby for leader

Barnaby said as much in the press today that he is not running because he does not have the numbers.Â

How about Rural and Regional people taking control of the party that is ment to represent them but has deserted them over the past 11 years

If you care, take action now, why don’t you contact your local Natinals MP and find out if they would support Barnaby as leader. We only have until Monday so you’ll have to act fast.

Lets start a grass roots campaign right here right now - Barnaby for leader ——Do we have any takers —–if so please email me of leave a comment with ideas and suggestions as to how we can do this

Over to you………for a bit of people power.

Most definately - Barnaby Joyce for Leader of the National Party. A great new face in a very tired useless old National Party.
I don’t know how to get him there but I’m sure there would be lots behind him.

Anyone would have to be better than Warren Truss.
Barnaby Joyce has proven that he is in touch with his electors. That is certainly more than most conservative politicians, so he gets my support.

John Mitchelmore says it all. His letter should be emailed to all Liberal & National politicians.

Judie & Anita, Thanks for your input. Barnaby and all other National Party Members get Agmates news by email so I’m sure he’ll be bouyed to see your support.

Since this article was published 5 days ago the message has at least got through to the QLD Nationals who have jettersoned Senator Ron Boswell and are at least pushing for Barnaby to be elected as the Nationals Senate leader although unbelieveably still supporting Truss for party leader.

Trust us if Truss becomes leader we will be scrutinizing his performance in this open forum where rural & regional people across Australia can have their say and be heard by our conservative politicians.

Cheers ,Steve Truman

We believe Barnaby Joyce would be a great leader of the National Party. We think he would be the one to take the National Party forward

Barnaby could do a Don Chipp. His successor Meg Lees achieved a great result with having GST removed from basic food. Nationals on present course won’t last as long as Democrats.
